The office coordinator of the Victoria Independent Film and Video Festival confirms that "The Search for John Gissing" will be showing (festival 1-10 February 2002). Tickets to 2 film showings are quite reasonable at $15. I'll keep you posted when I find out more about their schedule.

I see from the "John Gissing" web site that "The Search for John Gissing" has been
chosen as a selection for the Victoria Film Festival. Their web site indicates the
festival runs from 1-10 February 2002 and that they are screening the more than 500
films that have been submitted. I have e-mailed the organizers for confirmation/more
information but perhaps will see some of you there?

What's on Stage confirms 8-week extension for "Private Lives." They indicate discussions of a transfer to New York in "mid-2002" proceding "positively" pending actor availability--mainly Rickman, who has other (HP) commitments.

Victoria Wood (Christmas show) and the Amnesty International benefit featuring AR are now both available on video & DVD (I think someone else mentioned this below ...) - if you have a choice, get the DVD (region 2 - Europe) in each case. The Victoria Wood DVD has outtakes with AR collapsing with laughter, and the Amnesty DVD has an 'extras' piece on the 4 Yorkshiremen with some backstage material with AR.
Enjoy :)

IT APPEARS THE LONDON RUN OF "PRIVATE LIVES" HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY EXTENDED!
Ticketmaster.co.uk now lists dates through 3 March for this play, although performances past the original termination date of 6 January are up as "not currently on sale"! For those of you 'on the fence' about trying to make a London performance, now is the time to consider it in ernest. Air fares are about as low as ever they come. From Seattle, where BA has a monopoly to London, they are now $450 r/t.

London Private Lives Heading
for Broadway
17-OCT-2001
One of the West End's current success stories, Private Lives at the Albery Theatre, is due to transfer to New York next year.
The production, starring Alan Rickman and Lindsay Duncan, with Adam Godley and Emma Fielding, and directed by Howard Davies, is booked into the Albery until January 2002.
Producer Duncan Weldon has confirmed that he hopes to take the production to Broadway "somewhere in the first half of next year," but no further details are currently available.
The revival hit the West End Sept. 21, opening Oct. 4. Rickman and Duncan played opposite each other in Les Liasons Dangereues in the mid-1980s.
The play, with (after Romeo and Juliet) the best known balcony scene in theatre history, was performed at the National in 1999, the year of Coward's centenary, with Juliet Stevenson and Anton Lesser; and at the Aldwych, starring Joan Collins and Keith Baxter, in 1990.

Well, his first night is over. Wonder how it went..., TX USA - Friday, September 21, 2001 at 16:14:59 (PDT)
Suzanne, thanks so much for the confirmation about Therese Raquin. I rushed right over to the Signals online catalog (www.Signals.com -I don't know what I did with the catalog - it's probably at home and I'm at work!) and ordered it! Price is $49.95 for video, $39.95 (I think) for DVD. Shipping is a bit pricey (almost ten bucks!) but they list this as an "exclusive" item, so not much choice. Sorry to be so long in responding - I forgot I had even asked the question until this morning! Your news was certainly a welcome bright spot in what has been a couple of weeks filled with bad news. L'shanah tovah to all fellow Jewish readers of the guestbook. And happy Friday to all of us.

Ananova is reporting that Alan Rickman is to take part in "Alan Partridge presents Drugathon" at the Old Vic on 30th September at 7.30pm. Other celebrities taking part include Ruby Wax, Gary Oldman and Paul Whitehouse etc. The proceeds are for a Chemical dependancy centre. Apart from this I hope he does'nt have too many nerves today and that all goes well tonight!!!

STARS LINE UP FOR ASYLUM SEEKER CONCERT
BYLINE: David Barrett, Home Affairs Correspondent, PA News
Top actors are teaming up with musicians from the world of classical music for a concert supporting asylum seekers and refugees.
Emma Thompson and Michael Palin will take part in the event at London's Royal Festival Hall on November 19, and the stars of whimsical romance Truly, Madly,Deeply - Alan Rickman and Juliet Stevenson - will also be reunited for the night. The concert is the brain-child of human rights charities the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture and the Prisoners of Conscience Appeals Fund.
"We are privileged that such a leading group from the world of showbusiness are prepared to support this event and use their profiles to help people realise the reality of those who have been forced to leave their families, homes and countries," said Medical Foundation director, Helen Bamber.
Ms Stevenson is directing a segment of the gala which features drama and humour, while the second half will feature the London premiere of a choral work, Voices in Exile, by composer Richard Blackford.
Bournemouth Symphony Chorus commissioned the work and will perform accompanied by a 20-piece ensemble from Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, including soloists Robert Tear and Paul Whelan.
Mr Blackford's work features poems and stories written by exiles from 16 different countries.
Others taking part include actress Fiona Shaw, comedian Jeremy Hardy and poet Tony Harrison.
